“Lancelot. Lancelot!” He felt an odd sensation on the side of his cheek. His mind was foggy, and he didn’t think much about it. He relaxed again, trying to get back to sleep.

A cold liquid hit him square in the face, thrusting up his nostrils. He reflexively sat upright, sputtering for air.

“Hush, someone will hear you.”

Lancelot came to in an unfamiliar room. It seemed to be a storehouse of some kind with stacks of wooden crates, barrels, and hazy air. The space was dimly lit, illuminated by a patchwork of oil lanterns hanging from wooden beams. There didn’t appear to be windows of any kind and the walls were carved from rock.

The shopkeep from the eatery crouched a few paces to his side, his face stuck in a grim expression.

“Where’s Guinevere?” Lancelot mumbled.

The man just shook his head. “Wil, hang back and help set this man’s leg. The rest of you come with me.”

Lancelot turned to see a group of unfamiliar faces. A short man with wiry glasses approached and dropped down to his knee with a small toolbox. Lancelot looked up at the shopkeep, who nodded reassuringly and wandered away.

“Hey there. I’m Wil. I’ll be bandaging you up.”

“Where am I?”

“A few miles from camp, in an old mining outpost. Drink all of this.” The man held out a small metal flask and unscrewed the lid. Lancelot took it and downed the concoction. It tasted nasty and burned his throat.

“And my friends?” He wheezed.

“Gawain is taking the long way around. We think Lady Guinevere is just up ahead. Some disgruntled Rangers and a few smugglers have been holing up for the last few months. They’ve mostly kept to themselves but must really hate you and your friends.”

“Yeah. . . Kind of gathered that.”

The two men sat in silence as Wil finished bandaging Lancelot’s injured leg.

“Well, I’m all done here. Can you put any weight on it?”

Lancelot looked down at his leg which was wrapped in bandages and set in a makeshift brace.

“We’ll find out shortly.” He leaned forward as Wil helped him stand. Lancelot wobbled somewhat but the leg held. “Think I’m ok.”

“Good, follow me.”

The two men walked out of the room and down a narrow passageway. Lancelot stepped over a few bodies. His eyes turned down noticing their clothes. Marauders. He was glad to no longer be captured by them.

“How did you. . .?”

“Some of us used to work here before this place shut down. There are so many back ways in if you know where to look. Terrible base really, but I can understand the appeal. Enough fuel left in here to power a fleet of airships.”

The passageway widened into a massive stone cavern, open on one side to the snowfields down the mountain. A smuggler’s frigate and two Lancer-class vessels made for odd bedfellows but were tucked together on one side of the cavern. A large man stood on the gangway of the frigate rousing a mixed group of marauders in the center of the space. Lancelot
